Charges for Phone Advice from Our Nursing Team

Effective 3 August 2026

From 3 August 2026 a $20 fee may apply when you request to speak to our nursing team on the phone for clinical advice.

For many years, our nurses have provided telephone advice free of charge. As demand for this service has grown, our nurses now spend a significant amount of time each day providing individual clinical advice over the phone. Introducing this fee recognises their clinical expertise, professional knowledge, and the time involved in delivering this service.

When does the fee apply?

A $20 fee will apply if you contact our nursing team to request health advice.

Examples include:

  • General health advice
  • Advice on managing cold or flu symptoms
  • Advice about immunisations
  • Help interpreting blood test results
  • Advice about medications or ongoing health concerns

These are examples only and are not a complete list. If you are requesting clinical advice from a nurse, the fee will generally apply.

When does the fee not apply?

There is no charge when a nurse contacts you to:

  • Relay a message from your doctor
  • Arrange follow-up care
  • Provide on-the-day triage to assess your symptoms and book you in to see a doctor
  • Give advice to under 14-year-olds and CSC card holders

If a nurse calls you for one of these reasons, but during the conversation you ask for additional clinical advice that goes beyond the original reason for the call, a $20 fee may apply. If this is the case, the nurse will let you know before continuing.
