Standard Appointments

Our standard appointments are 15 minutes.

Generally the doctor can cover 1 issue or 2 small issues during your 15 minute appointment time. The doctor may ask you to rebook if you come with multiple issues.

If you require a longer appointment please let reception know at the time of making your appointment so they can book you a double appointment. An additional fee will apply for appointments longer than 15 minutes

Medication and contraceptive reviews require a full appointment. All patients on long-term medications are required to have an annual medication review with their doctor.

Medical examinations for special purposes e.g. medicals for a Driver’s Licence, Employment, Insurance and Diving or you need translator services, all require longer appointments and may involve a nurse appointment. Please ring the practice to book these in, do not book them online.

ACC Consultations

If your visit is the result of an accident, your doctor will lodge an ACC45 form electronically at the time of your consultation.

You will be asked to sign a declaration regarding the mechanism of injury and giving consent for information about your injury to be divulged to ACC.

ACC consultations incur a full consultation fee, ACC only pay a portion of non-capitated consultations.

If your visit is for a follow up, or for a dressing change as a result of attending an ED or an After Hours Clinic, you will be reviewed by a doctor at the first presentation. A doctor’s consultation fee will be charged. Subsequent nurse appointments for dressing changes incur a nurse consultation fee.

Further information may be found on the ACC website

Chaperone

All our patients have the right to have a chaperone present during examinations if they wish. You may wish to bring a support person with you or have a nurse chaperone. Please ask your doctor or practice nurse.

New Patient Appointments

Your first visit to Courtenay Medical will involve a 15 minute nurse appointment ($20), followed by a 15 minute appointment with your Doctor (normal GP Consultation fee).

Please arrive on time or if possible a little early for your appointment so we can update any contact details that might have changed.

Phone and Video Consultations

Fees for all virtual consultations are the same rate as a face-to-face consultation.

Clearly there are pros and cons to these consults versus a traditional face to face visit

They are more convenient as they don’t involve any travel to the practice.

If after your phone consult, we recommend you come in, we will have to charge you for this second appointment. We can do the best we can with the info we have gained on the phone to come up with a plan that does not require this – but it is our clinical responsibility to let you know when we think you would benefit from further review.

For video consultations, please ensure:

  • Your device is fully charged and connected to the internet
  • Your device’s microphone and video are enabled
  • You are in a suitably private area
  • If needing translator services, please book an in-clinic appointment and ask for a translator to be booked. Please advise the practice if you have arranged your own translator, as you require a longer appointment

Situations that will not work for virtual consultations are:

  • Chest or stomach pain – these often need an examination
  • Injuries – ACC
  • Respiratory infection with shortness of breath
